The effective pretreatment for municipal solid waste (MSW) before disposel can not only decrease the capacity of MSW and improve the effect of disposel, but also recover part of resource materials. Due to the various characteristics of MSW and different methods of disposal, a uniform system cannot meet the needs to dispose MSW but cause unnecessary waste of resources. In this paper, for the need of MSW incineration and its characteristics, the design of MSW pretreatment system of incinerators and the main parameters of equipment are analyzed. A pretreatment system matched with the circulating fluidized bed incinerator is introduced.

Currently there is widespread interest on the part of local governments in municipal solid waste (MSW)composting. However, there is little information on the costs of MSW composting. In this paper, the characteristics of municipal solid waste(MSW)composting and other solid waste disposal technology are simply compared. The application of MSW composting technology and the cost analysis at abroad are introduced. The economic benefit of MSW composting technology is analyzed. Analysis of economic benefits indicates that MSW composting may be competitive with land disposal. However, taking China’s economical situation into consideration, this essay prefers that natural composting is the practical method.

Abstract There are more than 522 towns and cities in Bangladesh, which generate thousands of tons of solid waste known as Municipal Solid Waste. Low collection coverage and disposal facilities are responsible for unsatisfactory waste management. The composting technology is a good alternative method for managing MSW. The present study was conducted to assess the quality of the MSW compost produced from the solid wastes of Mymensingh Pourashava. For quality assessment physical, chemical and biological properties of prepared compost namelye bulk density, porosity, water-holding capacity, moisture content, pH, organic matter content, C:N ratio, NPKS content, buffering capacity, soluble salts content, heavy metal content and the presence of harmful organisms in the MSW compost were studied. The results indicated that the MSW compost was matured and stable having pH 7.3 and buffering capacity of the MSW compost were good but the organic matter content and C : N (14.5) ratio were low. The N, P, K and S content of the MSW compost were 0.9, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.45 percent of the total volume. The soluble salts content and heavy metal content of the compost were found to be within the permissible limits. The MSW compost contained no E. coli and Salmonella . From the results, it can be concluded that, the composting could produce acceptable quality of compost, which can be used as fertilizer or soil amendment.

Abstract The development of new technological solutions in municipal solid waste management will reduce the adverse impact on the environment and human health. There are different methods of thermal disposal of municipal solid waste, such as incineration, pyrolysis,and gasification. The most effective and environmental method of thermal disposal is the gasification of solid wastes. This paper discusses the possibility of municipal solid waste gasification in underground coal gasification process and the prospects of gasification method following on from the analysis of the composition and properties of municipal solid waste. Municipal solid waste is a valuable carbonaceous feedstock that can be used in an underground coal gasification process to increase the life cycle of the underground gasifier, to produce additional volumes of synthesis gas, to stow the ash of municipal solid waste in mined-out space of underground gasifier. Operations of municipal solid waste preparation need to improve the efficiency of the gasification process. A considerable volume of municipal solid waste is an alternative carbonaceous resource, which can provide the needs of power and chemical industry for synthesis gas.
