Objective:To identify the commercial specification of Pogostemon cablin by testing the volatile oil and con-stituent content of different market Pogostemon cablin. Methods: The volatile oil and constituent content of different mar-ket Pogostemon cablin were analyzed quantitatively by the volatile oil assay of pharmacopoeia and GC-MS method. Re-sults: The volatile oil content of different market Pogostemon cablin didn't show market difference. Comparing to Paixiang, Zhaoxiang and Nanxiang, most of the market Pogostemon cablin were Nanxiang. Conclusion: Reinforcing the planting of Paixiang and Zhaoxiang can provide medicinal materials of high quality for Pogostemon cablin.

Objective To provide reference for rational exploitation and utilization of the plant of Pogostemon cablin(Blanco.) Benth. Methods ICP-MS with microwave digestion technique was used to measure the contents of trace elements in Pogostemon cablin(Blanco.) Benth.from different regions. Results There were some contents of B,Na,Mg,Al,K,Ca,Ti,V,Cr,Mn,Fe,Co,Ni,Zn,Se,Sr,Mo,Sn,Cs,Ba,Tl,Ga,Ge in medicinal materials of Pogostemon cablin(Blanco.) Benth. Conclusion There are differences among the contents of these elements in different regions of Pogostemon cablin(Blanco.) Benth..The contents of K,Ca,Mg,Al,Fe are higer than other elements. These traditional Chinese medicines have some medicinal value.

Patchouli ( Pogostemon cablin (Blanco) Benth.) is a herbaceous plant of the Lamiaceae family with medicinal properties and widely used in the perfume industry due to the high value of its essential oil. Histological studies are an important tool to assist in the taxonomic characterization of species. The aim of this study was to realize the characterization of secrete structures of patchouli leafs, accession POG-015. The cross sections have shown that patchouli essential oil-producing glands are in the mesophyll, peltate glandular trichomes on both sides of the sheet and capitate glandular trichomes only on the midrib.

The traditional Pogostemon cablin drugs were divided into three types, including Shipai Pogostemon cablin,Gaoyao Pogostemon cablin(Zhaoqing Pogostemon cablin) and Hainan Pogostemon cablin(including Zhanjiang Pogostemon cablin).Because of the difference of historical origins, ecology environment of product area, planting condition, harvesting time and the method of process, there was difference in properties and quality of drugs from three product areas. In addition, there were certain difference in growing, leaf's shape and color. The difference of internal structure of stem and leaf also had difference.According to compare characteristics out and inside,we can identify and assure Pogostemon cablin of different production area.

Objective To obtain the best conditions of inducing hairy roots of Pogostemon cablin and establish the system of inducing hairy roots of Pogostemon cablin and provide basis for further study. Methods Co-culture method was used to induce hairy roots of Pogostemon cablin by Agrobacterium rhizogenes ATCC15834 and C58C1 after pre culture,infection,co-culture and sterilization operations. Results Under the conditions of pre culture for 2 days,15 mg / L acetosyringone, infection of 25 min and coculture for 2 days, the induction rate of Agrobacterium rhizogenes ATCC15834 and C58C1 infecting Pogostemon cablin explants were the highest of 83.3% and 80.5%. The PCR amplification results confirmed that the part of T-DNA from Ri plasmid of Agrobacterium rhizogenes was in Pogostemon cablin hairy root genome integration and expression, indicating that Pogostemon cablin hairy roots have been induced successfully. Conclusion The system of inducing hairy roots of Pogostemon cablin were successfully induced and established.
