Abstract:
The design of major industrial facilities for the prevention of fatigue failure is customarily done by defining a set of transients and performing a calculation of cumulative usage factor. However, sometimes, the inherent conservatism or lack of details as well as unanticipated transients in old plant may cause maintenance problems. Even though several famous on-line monitoring and diagnosis systems have been developed world-widely, in this paper, a new system for fatigue monitoring and life evaluation of crane is proposed to reduce customizing effort and purchasing cost. With regard to the system, at first, comprehensive operating transient data has been acquired at critical locations of crane. The real-time data were classified, by using adaptive resonance theory that is one of typical artificial neural network, into representative stress groups. Then the each classified stress pattern was mapped to calculated cumulative usage factor in accordance with ASME procedure. Thereby, promising results were obtained for the crane and it is believed that the developed system can be applicable to other major facilities extensively. Keywords:

National conservatism provides an opportunity to realign the conservative movement in useful ways, namely by rejecting neoconservatism in favor of something more genuinely conservative. Catholics should applaud this. However, it must be recognized that national conservativism has its own goals and priorities distinct from Catholic social thought. Several pitfalls may impede the success of national conservatism. Most importantly, national conservatism might ultimately undervalue the importance of natural law and social conservatism.

As a kind of political thought, conservatism is very different from the theory which encourages revolutions. It is not easy or right to say which one is better, the conservatism or the liberalism. This article focuses on the main ideas of conservatism and its impact on the course of policy-making in American history. A macroscopic investigation on American history by conservatism is recognized in the long river of history are helpful to be understood each other.

“1960s and “conservatism” are two topics that the academia concerns. According to the traditional opinions, activism serves the 1960s as the main logo, and has no relation with conservatism. However, this article shows the important role that conservatism played in American social movement in 1960s. Furthermore, this article argues that conservatism in this period had been deeply influenced and coined by the time, and the activism and extremeness aspects of conservatism seem quite contradictory to its logic. This article tries to reveal this paradox. As a conclusion, the author argues that it is important to combine “1960s” with “conservatism”to make a more comprehensive and deeper understanding toward the two topics.

We explore the extent to which general considerations about the nature of social and political organization and the role of conventions in political life might provide a defence for the systematic status-quo orientation that we take to characterize conservatism. We term this strand of conservative thought “practical conservatism” because the conservatism in question is a practical response to certain facts about human society rather than deriving from any specifically conservative value or conservative attitude towards values.

Conservatism: it is chic, it is sexy, and it is in! Is this because of the exhaustion of the right–left divide? Does the new divide run between “conservatives against progressives,” as was cultivated by Emmanuel Macron during his presidential campaign? The already distant effect of the Manif pour tous? In any case, it is a fact that one can observe a return of interest in conservatism, which is surprising in France, where, in contrast to Germany or the Anglo-Saxon countries, conservatism, always hastily identified with the “reaction,” never had good press, at least not since the end of the nineteenth…

Neo-conservatism, which sprang in 1960s-1970s, has affected deeply not only the internal politics of U.S.A but also its foreign policies. The growth of Neo-conservatism was closely related to the unchecked spread of liberalism in the 1960s and the political circumstances both at home and abroad. The theoretical source of Neo-conservatism may come down to the wonderful combination of liberalism and conservatism of U.S.A. Neo-conservatism is characteristic of being conservative in internal policies and being open in foreign policies.

Conservatism is often assumed to imply a continuity of values and positions between past and present. Previous research has demonstrated, however, that there are discontinuities between historical and contemporary political conservatism and that modern political conservatives endorse programs and legislation once regarded as liberal. Testing whether the same pattern may hold for religious conservatism was the purpose of this research. Perceptions of conservative positions in Christian history were assessed among young adults (N = 221). Results showed that individuals who identified themselves as conservatives were less likely to recognize past conservative positions on religious issues than individuals who identified themselves as liberals. These findings were not accounted for by lack of knowledge about religious history on the part of conservatives. Furthermore, women were more likely than men to accurately identify conservative and liberal positions of the past. The findings suggest that religious conservatism, like political conservatism, does not necessarily involve a continuity of positions between past and present.

This chapter examines the basic features of conservative ideology, with particular emphasis on its strongly contested nature. It begins with a discussion of two major issues: whether conservatism is distinctive ideology and whether the core ideas of conservatism have changed over time. It then shows how conservatism differs from varieties of liberalism and goes on to explore ‘conservatism’ in the United States, along with some apparent manifestations of conservatism in political parties and movements outside the United Kingdom. Finally, it looks at the relationship between conservatism and religion. Case studies on the ideas of Edmund Burke, Winston Churchill, Barry Goldwater, and Friedrich von Hayek are presented.
