Objective:To explore the changes of sexual function of patients with adenomyosis after the treatment of Levonorgestrel releasing intrauterine system. Methods:The female sexual function of forty patients with adenomyosis after LNG-IUS impantation was assessed by Brief Index of Sexual Function for Women(BISF-W) one month before treatment,6 and 12 months after treatment.Results:Thirty-five patients were successfully followed up,and the follow-up rate was 87.5%.Not until 12 months after treatment, the sexual function improved significantly. Conclusion:Levonorgestrel releasing intrauterine system(LNG-IUS) treatment has significant effect on sexual functional recovery in patients with adenomyosis.

The intrauterine device (IUD) is the most popular method of reversible contraception in women of reproductive age nowadays, and its use is being reported by nearly 160 million women. It is considered safe and effective, but intrauterine devices are associated with rare complications such as uterine perforation. We report a case of uterine perforation by a levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine device (LNG-IUD), Mirena (Bayer, Auckland, New Zealand) levonorgestrel 52 mg, to create awareness of the diagnosis and the laparoscopic management of these rare cases.

Objective To evaluate the effect of levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system(LNG-IUS)on the adenomyosis. Methods 38 cases with adenomyosis were placed levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system.Dysmenorrhea, menstruation, uterine, ovarian volume and adverse reactions were observed and followed up for 12 months after the placing of LNG-IUS.Results After the placing of LNG-IUS,dysmenorrhea significantly reduced (P0.01) the period significantly decreased (P0.01),endometrium was significantly thinner (P0.01),uterine volume decreased with size (but no statistical significance),ovarian volume was not changed in 38 cases with adenomyosis. Conclusion The levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system provides a more effective and safe method in the treatment of adenomyosis.

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system(LNG-IUS) in the treatment of adenomyosis. Methods Thirty eight patients with adenomyosis were followed up in 0,1,3,6 months after treating with LNG-IUS.The menstrual blood volume, dysmenorrheal, size of ulteri and endometrial thickness were observed and evaluated. Results After inserting LNG-IUS,dysmenorrhea was obviously alleviated, and the dysmenorrheal scores decreased to(22±7) from(75±15)(P0.05).The menstrual blood volume by PBAC were(197±65),(53±22),(42±13) and(25±13) in 0,1,3,6 months after the insertion.Endometrial thickness reduced significantly in 6 months, and the size of uteri didn't change significantly. Conclusion LIG-IUS is an effective and safe therapy for adenomyosis.

Pain levels may interfere with a patient`s decision when it comes to choosing an appropriate intrauterine system. To our knowledge, there is no study which compares the pain levels during and in the first weeks after the insertion of the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS), opposed to copper T380A intrauterine device (C T380A IUD), considering the structural differences between the two devices. In the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of University Emergency Hospital Bucharest we prospectively evaluated 100 women, who expressed interest in an IUD, as a form of longacting reversible method of contraception. The subjects were separated into two groups. In the first group (n=50) LNG-IUS was inserted, while in the second group (n=50), the C T380A IUD was placed. All patients were asked to describe the level of pain using a numeric scale during and in the first four weeks after IUD insertion at a follow-up visit. We than compared the levels of pain stated by the patients in the groups immediately after insertion and at the follow-up visit -four weeks after IUD insertion has been made.Rank test statistics confirmed no difference in the level of pain of the patients in the first group, with a levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system inserted, and those in the second group, with a copper T380A intrauterine device inserted.

Objective To investigate the clinical effect and sides effects of levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine(Mirena) in the treatment of adenomyosis. Methods Fifty-three cases of adenomyosis treated with levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system in the third affiliated hospital of Zhengzhou university during August 2010 and April 2012 were followed-up.The change of dysmenorrhea and menstrual volume, sides effects before and after 1,3,6 months insertion respectively were observed. Results The grades of both postoperative dysmenorrhea, menstrual volume and endometrial thickness markedly decreased, with statistical significance (P < 0.01).The uterine volume slightly reduced, but there was no statistical significant differece before and after treatment (P > 0.05).The main side effects were little vaginal bleeding, menopausal symptom, colpoxerosis, osteoporosis and so on.Conclusions Mirena was an effective method in the treatment of adenomyosis. Objective:To explore the effect and adverse reaction of levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) on adenomyosis. Methods:The scores of dysmenorrhea and menstrual blood loss by PBAC of 40 cases with adenomyosis were detected before and 3,6,12 months later after placement of LNG-IUS.Results:The scores of dysmenorrhea and menstrual blood loss by PBAC on 3 months after placement of LNG-IUS were lower than those before placement (P0.01);27 cases were with varying degrees of anxiety before placement, but no case broke off the treatment.Conclusion:LNG-IUS is an effective, safe and conservative method for adenomyosis;sufficient education may enhance the compliance of patient.
