Abstract:
Background
Health Trainers were introduced in the 2004 ‘Choosing Health’ White Paper with the aim of promoting healthy lifestyle behaviours among people living in disadvantaged areas. This is achieved through the use of techniques based on evidence and theories from health psychology. The initiative also aims to combat social exclusion by recruiting and training local people as Health Trainers. The evidence to support the effectiveness of behaviour change interventions delivered by non-professional or lay workers is mixed. Furthermore, there is a tendency to emphasise individual behaviour change outcomes rather than assessing the effects of community-based programmes across the breadth of their activities. Qualitative research can help to shed light on these effects and inform the successful replication and sustainability of interventions. Objectives
To explore staff and service user views, experiences and perceptions of the Health Trainers intervention in order to evaluate its perceived effects on individuals, organisations and communities.Design
A longitudinal qualitative research approach was used to provide insight into the participants9 experiences and social contexts. In-depth interviews with service users were conducted at 0, 3, 6 and 12 months, and with staff at 0 and 12 months. The interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim and analysed using the constant comparative method associated with grounded theory.Setting and Participants
26 service users and 18 staff members theoretically sampled from 3 Health Trainer Services in the north east of England.Findings
Analyses of the interview data identified an array of short- and medium- effects perceived as arising from participation in the Health Trainers intervention. These have been grouped into four categories using Nutbeam9s outcome model for health promotion. Health promotion actions: Community members were successfully recruited as Health Trainers and perceived to be delivering interventions that are inclusive and acceptable to local people. Health promotion outcomes: Service users reported changes in knowledge, attitudes and personal skills relating to key lifestyle issues, as well as increased self-efficacy. Intermediate health outcomes: In the majority of cases, health-related behaviour changes made by 3 months were reportedly sustained at 6 and 12 months. Health and social outcomes: Longer-term effects included improvements in existing conditions, reduced medication usage and enhanced quality of life. Conclusion
This study adds to the evidence base for the evaluation of community-based interventions designed to improve health and reduce health inequalities. Use of a longitudinal qualitative approach was successful in capturing the complexity of the Health Trainers intervention and identifying its short- and medium-term effects. Keywords:

This paper provides suggestions of doing a grounded theory business research. The main intention is to provide guidelines and suggestions for novice researchers, students and their supervisors in conducting a grounded theory business research. The main discussion of this paper will focus on the principles driving a grounded theory research, the choice between the two versions of grounded theory, the research problem, the purpose of the study, the research questions, and the place of literature review in a grounded theory study. In addition, an example of how a grounded theory was induced from data is illustrated. Its purpose is to illustrate how the procedures of data analysis, theoretical memoing and theoretical sampling were used to progressively to generate a grounded theory. In conclusion, the specific skills required by the researchers attempting a grounded theory study are suggested.

This Policy Insights examines the well-being of children from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds in comparison to their more advantaged peers. It shows that children from disadvantaged backgrounds are more likely to experience poor material outcomes, poor health, and worse education, as well as poorer social and emotional outcomes. These early well-being inequalities are rooted in the poorer environments that disadvantaged children face, making social inequalities in child well-being outcomes particularly difficult to address. There is a need for consistent support across all domains to address these challenges and improve the life experiences and outcomes of disadvantaged children.

advantaged has been referred to as culturally deprived, culturally different, socially disadvantaged, underprivileged, and slow learners by other people in other places. Precise definition is at this point nonexistent in the journals and in current research. There are, however, some descriptions and some attempts at definition which are more nearly precise and fruitful than others. A quick look at them here should bring the into clearer focus. Following examination of these descriptions, the disadvantaged student as conceived of in this series will be described. A relatively clear idea of the disadvantaged student should emerge at that point. In the professional literature, discussion and description of the disadvantaged falls into two general categories. First, the disadvantaged are described from social and psychological points of view. It is with this approach that terms such as culturally deprived, socially disadvantaged, underprivileged, and so on, are most frequently usedappearing again and again in the numerous works in the field. Central here are self-con-

Qualitative research method is adjudged a veritable tool in generating data aimed at subjective understanding of sociocultural issues facing humanity. Using archival research method, this review study strives to understand qualitative research paying particular attention to grounded theory method. I pay particular attention to the grounded theory research process. I examine the methodological strength of grounded theory research method as option in qualitative research. Finally, I route for criteria for evaluation of qualitative research.

"Grounded Theory" has been employed quite widely in studies of information systems (IS) phenomena. A survey of IS literature reveals conflict in the understanding and use of "grounded theory". The term "grounded theory" is often used as a catch phrase to denote usage of a grounded theory approach to conducting research. A variety of grounded theory approaches have been employed in IS research. The purpose of this investigation was to establish the alternative approaches employed, and the extent to which each was used. To achieve this purpose, a comprehensive review of IS studies that employed "grounded theory" was carried out. Articles from the commonly ranked top 50 IS-centric journals were used as the frame of reference. These journals most closely represent the status quo in IS research. Articles for the period 1985 to 2007 were examined. The analysis revealed four main grounded theory approaches in IS research. These can be classified as the "Glaserian" grounded theory approach, the "Straussian" grounded theory approach, the use of "grounded theory" as part of a mixed methodology, and the simple application of grounded theory techniques, typically for data analysis purposes. The latter has been the most common application of "grounded theory" in IS research. The "Glaserian" approach was the least often employed, with many studies opting for the "Straussian" approach. These and other findings are discussed and implications drawn.

The grounded theory approach has become established as the qualitative methodology of choice for many counselling and psychotherapy researchers. It is now becoming apparent to many researchers that there are significant difficulties associated with defining what the grounded theory method actually is, and how is should be implemented. In addition, its popularity has tended to keep other qualitative approaches under‐explored and under‐utilised. This paper explores some of the methodological issues raised by the grounded theory approach, before presenting and then contrasting heuristic inquiry as a very different but equally useful form of qualitative methodology. Finally, the notion of researcher as bricoleur will be considered in the light of the need to develop pluralistic approaches to qualitative research in counselling and psychotherapy.

With the dismantling of apartheid and the opening of universities to people from sociopolitically disadvantaged communities, the issue of relevant selection procedures has become increasingly pressing in South Africa. This study aimed at exploring the relative value of various predictots for disadvantaged versus advantaged students. Subjects comprised the 26 students enrolled in a pre-university Faculty of Commerce bridging yesr, 18 of whom were ftom educationally disadvantaged backgrounds. Generally, the academic success of disadvantaged, was considerably less predictable than that advantaged students. Further, universally-used matriculation criterion was not a significant predictor for either the disadvantaged or the advantaged, while the dynamic and process measures applied were also not significant predictors for disadvantaged students. The results were seen as supporting the need for an alternative approach to selection. and a of enrichment programmes themselves.

Qualitative research aims to analyze the classification of phenomenon and the behavior of people by getting magnanimity data which are consecutive and contextualized.Qualitative research is different from quantitative research that pays attention to understanding people's subjective experience and exploring non-quantitative information. In practice the analysis of qualitative research is an inductive and reasoning process from bottom, being nonlinear. The core of qualitative analysis is the constant comparison and focusing coding. One of the qualitative analysis methods is the Grounded Theory which has a rigorous procedure and is used broadly by qualitative researchers.
