Abstract Rapidly changing technologies and changing customer requirements are producing shorter product life cycles, which in turn compel organizations to shorten product development cycle times. Several researchers have considered environmental influences on cycle times. This article extends their work by examining the influence of outcome-based performance assessment and nontechnical outside assistance on new product development cycle time. Literatures relating to product development cycle times are reviewed, and a model identifying the factors influencing cycle time is presented and tested. Results from a study of 188 new product development projects indicate that use of nontechnical outside assistance lengthens product development cycle time, whereas output control can shorten or lengthen product development cycle time dependent upon the market's growth rate and product's innovativeness.

In today's increasingly competitive market, the life cycle of the product is significantly shortened, the product homogeneity phenomenon is becoming more and more serious, the development of product has become a very important task in the business operation in order to get a more stable position in the market. But how to develop a successful product welcomed by the market becomes a new subject. So it requires the use of the product development model to help companies solve this problem, but before that, a correct understanding of product development is an important pre-class work that helps companies successfully use patterns.

In order to achieve a sustainable development, circular economy approaches and circular material flows are explored in industry. However, circular information flows remain essentially unestablished. The aim of this paper is to: 1) explore categories and types of product life-cycle information available for remanufacturing; 2) identify constraints for efficient product life-cycle information flow via remanufacturing; and 3) propose initiatives to facilitate product life-cycle information flow via remanufacturing. Data was collected through workshops and interviews at five remanufacturing companies. An accumulated Sankey diagram illustrates product life-cycle information flow, losses and bottleneck. Based on the analysis, possible initiatives to facilitate efficient product life-cycle information flow via remanufacturing are presented.

This research examines whether the marketing mix decisions for new product launch change over the product‐market life cycle. Results raise questions about existing benchmark beliefs based on normative text‐book theories. In view of new insights we suggest a number of directions for the theoretical and empirical development of the new product launch field in the marketing management discipline.

Product development is the creative phase in product realization. With progresses made in information technology, contents and influences of product development are continually broadening. This paper focused on new concepts of product development in information age and lifecycle oriented product development theories and methods. It also introduced applications and developments of the Virtual Product Development Technology. Without question, the Virtual Product Development Technology will be a powerful tool to support creative thoughts of engineers in 21 st century.

It is clearly demonstrated, from the comparative study of the Chinese enterprises and the overseas ones, that the capability in product development is of vital importance to enterprises competitiveness. The product life cycle theory highlights the track that products follow and different stages in the products life cycle.Entrepreneurs should carefully handle every aspect of the product development, and take fully leverage the enterprises' external technical forces to form effective source for the new product development.
