Developing with intelligent building application, the intelligent BAS had been grown up separating from traditional one. But, general speaking, the BAS still had been impressed that is a integration system by sequence control and short of intelligence comparing with industry complex large system. According to intelligent control theory, whatever objects are, the control core or head and controlled object must be consisted in system, and this control core must be intelligent. In this paper, depending on thinking of building control characteristics, we present the new concept that intelligent BAS is a complex large system, but it can be constructed a hierarchical large system, and the intelligent hierarchical control is its main approach. Basing on this point, we discuss the intelligent BAS network structure. On the other hand, for intelligent control requirement, the lower level sensor network and wireless sensor network in this BAS are described. Finally, some application suggestions of wireless sensor network in BAS are discussed in this paper.

The confluence of the rapidly expanding sensor, computation, and telecommunication industries has allowed for a new instrument concept: the Sensor Web. A Sensor Web consists of intra-communicating, spatially-distributed sensor pods that are deployed to monitor and explore environments. It is capable of automated reasoning for it can perform intelligent autonomous operations in uncertain environments, respond to changing environmental conditions, and carry out automated diagnosis and recovery. Sensor Webs could have as much an impact on the uses of sensors as the Internet did on the uses of computers. Sensor Webs are often confused with “distributed sensors” or “sensor networks”. The unique feature of the Sensor Web is that information gathered by one pod is shared and used by other pods. In contrast, sensor networks merely gather data and information gathered by a particular pod on such a network does not influence the behavior of another pod. Thus, sensor networks collect data while Sensor Webs can react and modify their behavior on the basis of the collected data. This paper will outline the potential of the Sensor Web concept and describe the Jet Propulsion Laboratory Sensor Webs Project (http://sensorwebs.jpl.nasa.gov/). In particular, a prototype Sensor Web deployed at the Huntington Botanical Gardens will be discussed.

Many wireless sensor networks applications have been investigated such as in scientific, medical, commercial, and military domains, to perform sensing and monitoring in physical world. Large-scale wireless sensor networks are composed of hundreds or thousands of autonomous sensor nodes. Effectively managing sensor networks is a major challenge. An SNMP-like sensor network management system, WSNView system, is developed to provide a convenient and effective means of monitoring and managing sensor network operations. The WSNView system can automatically search for any sensor node and demonstrate its connection relations among other sensor nodes. This system can also monitor, collect and analyze networks. Network operation can be modified based on the measured and analysis data. The network can automatically display information about and the reasons for abnormal phenomenon. The management of configuration, performance and faults in a network is performed according to the collected information. Experimental results show that the designed WSNView system is effective in wireless sensor networks.

This paper proposes the development of intelligent sensors as an integrated systems approach, i.e. one treats the sensors as a complete system with its own sensing hardware (the traditional sensor), A/D converters, processing and storage capabilities, software drivers, self-assessment algorithms, communication protocols and evolutionary methodologies that allow them to get better with time. Under a project being undertaken at the Stennis Space Center, an integrated framework is being developed for the intelligent monitoring of smart elements. These smart elements can be sensors, actuators or other devices. The immediate application is the monitoring of the rocket test stands, but the technology should be generally applicable to the Intelligent Systems Health Monitoring (ISHM) vision. This paper outlines progress made in the development of intelligent sensors by describing the work done till date on Physical Intelligent Sensors (PIS) and Virtual Intelligent Sensors (VIS).

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are an emerging technology which can be used for outdoor environmental monitoring. This paper presents challenges that arose from the development and deployment of a WSN for environmental monitoring as well as network performance analysis of this network. Different components in our sensor network architecture are presented like the physical nodes, the sensor node code, and two messaging protocols; one for collecting sensor and network values and the other for sensor node commands. An information model for sensor nodes to support plug-and-play capabilities in sensor networks is also presented.
