Abstract:
Spin echo measurements have been made, at liquid helium temperatures, on 165Ho in ferromagnetic alloys of holmium with gadolinium, terbium and dysprosium. Intra and extraionic contributions to the hyperfine interaction are discussed, with particular emphasis on conduction electron effects. The hyperfine field Bp due to conduction electrons polarized by the parent holmium ion is found to be +12 T, and the field Bn due to conduction electrons polarized by neighbouring ions is -8.3 S T, where S is the mean ionic spin of the alloy. The contributions from individual neighbour ions to Bn are found to be additive and of moderately long range, and to depend only on the spin of the polarizing ion. Electric quadrupole splittings in the Ho-Tb and Ho-Dy alloys indicate that the electric field gradient due to conduction electrons exceeds that due to the ionic lattice by a factor of about seven. Keywords:

Diphenyl Sulfoxide (DPhSO) complexes with dysprosium-terbium mixed system are prepared and characterized by means of IR spectra and X-ray diffraction.By fluorescent experiments it has been found that,in the mixed complexes, dysprosium(Ⅲ) and terbium (Ⅲ) can weaken each other′s complex fluorescence.

This paper considers the fluorescent behavior of the compounds formed by terbium and dysprosium with nalidixic acid, which has been used in a highsensitivity method for the selective and rapid determination of these elements. The fluorescence intensities from the terbium and dysprosium complexes were recorded, and the content of the terbium in the sample was calculated from the heights of the fluorescence peaks for the sample alone and with additives. The accuracy and reliability were checked under laboratory conditions in analyzing specimens of lanthanide oxides for terbium and dysprosium by the method of addition.

Vacuum distillation technology purifying terbium and dysprosium metals has been researched in this paper, and some factors influencing purification process such as distillation temperature, distillation rate and so on were discussed. The result shows that the extraction rate of terbium and dysprosium metals is all above 97%,Tb(or Dy) /TREM ≥99.99%,totol rare earth metal impurity content 100μg/g,total non-rare earth metal impurity content 300μg/g,O200μg/g,N40μg/g,C70μg/g,and the high-purified terbium and dysprosium metals are good raw materials for rare earth giant magnetostrictive materials.

High-resolution capacitance dilatometric measurements on the a, b and c axes of terbium and dysprosium indicate that, to a resolution of 1*10-6, the Neel transitions of both methods are second order. This is both in contrast to the prediction of Barak and Walker (1982), and also in contrast to the case of holmium, which has a first-order Neel transition.
