A low-cost multichannel data-acquisition system based on the Commodore C-64 or the C-128 microcomputer is described. The hardware supports up to 16 input channels at 13-bit resolution. The sampling rate of the analog-to-digital converter is 25/s. Features of the supporting software include both numeric and multicolor graphic screen output, printer output with user’s comments, and disk storage of the digitized signals. The graphic display has a 320×200-pixel grid and can be displayed in 16 colors. Input readings may be scheduled using the internal computer clock for data collection over an extended period. Easy construction using low-cost components makes this an attractive laboratory data-acquisition system.

A microprocessor controlled portable hemodialysis system (The Suitcase Kidney) has been designed and 18 dialyses have been successfully completed. The microprocessor is shown to be an improvement and simplification over the conventional discrete control mechanisms presently used to monitor and control system functions. The microprocessor is shown to reduce development time, complexity and size of the system while improving patient safety. A description of the system is presented emphasizing the functioning of the microcomputer.

ABSTRACT In this paper a scheme using an Intel MCS-51 single chip microcomputer to control an instrument for automated cell potential measurement is presented. The system hardware and control software are discussed in detail. The sampling of solutions, the measurement of samples, and the acquisition of data are controlled by a single chip microcomputer. This fully digitally controlled instrument is small in size and exhibits high reliability.

The principles, structure and functions of an intelligent data acquisition system based on 80C196(a type of 16bits single-chip microcomputer)are introduced in this paper. The acquisition channels can be configured neatly.Controlld by 80C196,the analog quantity from eight channels is converted very quickly into digital quantity that is sent to PC computers by mens of DMA(Direct Memory Access)through serial p`ort. The acquired data is analyzed and handled in real-time through PC.

In order to transfer data with great speed in a singlechip microcomputer control system, the DMA circuit is designed with an interface circuit and a DMA controller.By extending the memory, the data can be transferred by DMA with little share in the singlechip microcomputer's resources. This method can be used to design the interface of a floppy disk driver or a highspeed sampling circuit.
