    Abstract:
Higher Criticism (HC) has been proposed by Donoho & Jin as an effective statistic to detect deviations from Gaussianity. Motivated by the success of the Bianchi VIIh model in addressing many of the anomalies observed in the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) data (Jaffe et al.), we present calculations in real and in wavelet space of the HC statistic of the Bianchi-corrected WMAP first-year data. At the wavelet scale of 5°, the HC of the WMAP map drops from a value above the 99 per cent confidence level (c.l.) to a value below the 68 per cent CL when corrected by the Bianchi template. An important property of the HC statistic is its ability to locate the pixels that account for the deviation from Gaussianity. The analysis of the uncorrected WMAP data pointed to a cold spot in the Southern hemisphere, centred at l∼ 209°, b∼−57°. The HC of the Bianchi-corrected map indicates that this spot remains prominent, albeit at a level completely consistent with Gaussian statistics. Consequently, it is debatable how much emphasis should be placed on this residual feature, but we consider the effect of modestly increasing the scaling of the template. A factor of only 1.2 renders the spot indistinguishable from the background level, with no noticeable impact on the results published in Jaffe et al. for the low-l anomalies, large-scale power asymmetry or wavelet kurtosis. A trivial interpretation would be that the Bianchi template may require a small enhancement of power on scales corresponding to the wavelet scale of 5°.
Criticism making, whether in the name of social criticism, cultural criticism, or Lu Xun's “civilized criticism”, is an important mission for intellectuals. With this, the position of the intellectuals is decided by two factors: the historical accumulation of realistic experience and complication of personal identity. Such a position is fluid, unconfined, homeless and out of place, which is genuinely attached to intellectuals.

This entry provides an overview of press/journalism criticism, particularly in democratic societies. It notes the growth of criticism that has paralleled the emergence of the digital age but also points out that the longstanding call for a sustained, systematic tradition of press criticism has not yet been answered in most democracies. The entry makes a case for why criticism of the news media matters, and it analyzes what has historically counted as criticism, who has counted as critic, and how the journalism community has reacted. The entry also briefly considers several of the most important forums for criticism, and it introduces opportunities and challenges for press criticism in the digital age.

Purpose/Aim: The aim is to study the critics own views upon their profession and upon the development of criticism, and to thereafter set this in relation to contemporary theory and debates. Material/Method: A qualitative study pursued through personal interviews. The results are categorized and split into different themes. Main Results: Through media convergence and a changed media culture the conditions for criticism have also been altered. But in spite of various negative prophecies, these changes cause no serious threat to criticism. New forums and new forms of criticism actually increase the importance of the traditional ditto as the authoritative voice that holds the field together. Still, there are questions and fears about a future seemingly less and less predictable. The pace of these changes and the increased influence of the market can pose a threat unless the leadership doesn’t actively choose to uphold and protect traditional criticism.

The discussion about school criticism in comtemporary literature criticism is significant, and there are various thoughts and backgrounds. But school criticism shows its weak points which can be examined by theoretical aesthetics. Thus, three important theories should be understood in order to build authentic school criticism.

Compared with news-criticism and writer-criticism,college-criticism has its rational character. But at present time, the lose of the college-criticism's intuitive knowledge is very serious. It has some corresponding relationship to the three levels of individual need.Only raise to the sixth level, can the genuine college-criticism be born.

The article is devoted to problems of the scientific criticism in the context of polemics about Marxism. The author determines the criticism as creative production of new knowledge. He also distinguishes absolute and relative, text and context, corresponding and noncorresponding criticism. Interaction of hermeneutics and criticism is considered. Special attention is paid to the contents of criticism of the scientific system, on one side, and nonsystematic ideas, hypotheses and theories - on the other.

To have the right and possibility to criticize religions in public life is crucial for developing a healthy liberal democratic society. However, this criticism could take many different forms with respect to who offers the criticism, on what grounds it is based, its aim, what the target of the criticism is, and whom the critics try to convince. In this article, I develop a theoretical framework we can use to distinguish and assess different forms of criticism, focusing primarily on secular criticism of religion. Furthermore, I argue that in performing such a meta-study of criticism, it is vital that we reflect more carefully on how to develop plausible ethics of criticism. Finally, by comparing public criticism and academic criticism, I show that such ethics must be developed in a way that is sensitive to discourse.
