Abstract:
Multi-channel differential-signalling scheme is one of the key technologies for modern electronics systems. For actual system, the ideal balance or symmetrical topology cannot be established, and hence, an imbalance component is excited. To provide the basic considerations for establishment of predicting the EM radiation from practical differential-paired lines, this paper attempts to quantify the correlation between imbalance components and EM radiation from asymmetrical differential-paired line with different equi-distance routing. Finally, the dominant radiation factor is identified using our proposed model. Keywords:

Transmission lines on PCB can be treated as microstrip antennas when the frequency is high enough. Because of the incident HP-EM (high power electromagnetic) wave, electric systems may be disturbed by the coupling between spatial waves and transmission lines. To solve the interference of complex systems, an efficient model is proposed in this paper. It combines the transmission theory and network theory and gives an easier solution of the system coupling

The interactions and coupling between an external source and the cables of a digital communication system through a small aperture have been analyzed through the electromagnetic topology technique for simulations. Using an alternate approach to transfer function generation in the state-of-the-art topological code and by utilizing experimentally determined S-parameters of a cable network linked to personal computers, the response of the cables to lightning and electromagnetic pulses has been studied. The simulation results show that external fields on the cable current depend strongly on cable lengths, locations, and terminating impedances. Analysis also shows that damage to cables or soft errors on data transmission is more pronounced at high-frequency electromagnetic pulses, compared to lightning.

In this paper, signal integrity (SI) of a mobile high-definition link (MHL) system is analyzed, having the discontinuous and asymmetric structures. In the SI analysis of the MHL system, three dimensional (3D) electromagnetic (EM) solver and time domain reflectometry (TDR) method are carried out. As a result, the differential signals with the discontinuous reference plane experience the degeneration of transmission characteristic due to the impedance mismatch, rendering by discontinuities in return current path of the signals. Moreover, it is found that the SI characteristic of the differential signal could be significantly degenerated, when the asymmetric guard traces with ground vias for electromagnetic interference (EMI) reduction are located closer to the signal trace than the balanced reference plane. Therefore, SI can be guaranteed with widely open eye diagram using the symmetric and continuous reference plane for the coupled signal lines in the high-speed digital interconnect.

In this paper, we present a scheme for power line communications systems which could use four or five conductors in low-voltage distribution grids. For improving the system capacity and SNR, we propose a channel model based on the multiconductor transmission line theory. The signal distribution on the multiconductors is the function of the reflection matrix with inner source load matrix and load matrix. The signals with such format will be very useful in power line communications system. The measurements have been performed and the comparison between the measurements and simulations verifies the proposed model

This paper proposes a new approach to model the common-mode (CM) current propagation path of electrical power line cable for broadband power line communications (PLC). In this approach, a CM current propagation model for a three-wire power line cable is developed using the Multi-conductor Transmission Line (MTL) theory. The model is used to study the electromagnetic interference (EMI) radiation mechanism from the PLC network. The accuracy of the model is verified through numerical simulations and practical measurements conducted on the actual power line network. The developed model allows us to predict the CM current in the power line cable with reasonable accuracy.

This paper introduces a generalized approach of the linear combination of configuration field (LCCF) method. The technique developed in this paper provides a way to identify the temporal profile of electromagnetic sources satisfying particular properties for a given target (fields, voltage, or current). Here, we focus on identifying voltage signals that would lead to a specified voltage over a time interval at some points of a network. To experimentally apply the same idea, we propose two possibilities to decrease the maximum frequencies of the voltage signals. The LCCF method is then applied to bring a software correction to a lossy transmission-line network presenting soft or hard defects.

In a differential transmission line, a large common-mode current is excited due to its asymmetry. In this paper, the authors demonstrate experimentally the common-mode current and verify the imbalance difference model that was proposed for prediction of the common-mode current reduction. Experimental results show that the reduction of common-mode current of about 20 dB is achieved by changing the position of the transmission line. In addition, the differences that are calculated using the imbalance difference model are in agreement with the measured ones within 2 dB.

This paper presents a method in analysing of the induced voltages in transmission line networks, which uses electromagnetic topology based on COG for simplifying the complexity of the wirings, and the hybrid BLT-FDTD method proposed for calculation of the network contains non-uniform lines. Simulation is performed for a typical cables network. The results are compared with those under complete interaction sequence diagram showing the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method.

In this work an approximate circuit model is derived to describe the impact of mutual coupling between sequence circuits in a three-phase power system including an asymmetrical line (e.g., untransposed line). The proposed equivalent circuit exploits the assumption of weak coupling between positive and negative sequence circuits. This hypothesis proves to be reasonable since line asymmetry can be usually considered as a small perturbation of symmetry. Since the derived equivalent circuit is very simple, it can be effectively used to investigate propagation of voltage unbalance emission through a complex power network. The proposed circuit model is validated through a Simulink® numerical simulation of a three-phase power system including a stretch of asymmetrical line.

This paper presents a general concept of crosstalk cancelling between independent signals, transmitted in physically coupled transmission lines, by proper configuration of the input and output of the lines. It is shown that under specific conditions, the coupled signals may have nonzero current and zero voltage or vice versa. In both cases, the power of the crosstalk signal is zero. The aforementioned phenomena are explained using both electromagnetic field and circuit models of the physical structures considered. Complete setup of possible circuit configurations at the input and output of the line is provided. Simulations using a simulation program with integrated circuit emphasis and a full-wave 3-D electromagnetic simulator verify the concept.
