    Abstract:
Relative attenuation measurements of 2.2 MeV neutrons in up to 12 inches of shield are reported for the following shielding materials: polyethylene, water, spodumene-gypsum, Gypsum (wet and dry), and concrete. (SDF)
This paper deals with the effect of different waterproof agents for gypsum on the formation of gypsum crystal.Combining waterproof performance of gypsum with utilizing modern testing instrument, such as SEM,EPS,etc.,the reasons for influence of waterproof agents for gypsum on the crystal formation of gypsum products and its waterproof mechanism were analyzed in terms of crystal changing of gypsum after adding compound waterproof agent for gypsum.

Additional shield is necessary to maintain the shield effect behind a bore in a shielding wall. By means of calculations with the ray analysis method that poirt was determined, where the additional radiation dose amounts to 50% of the dose behind the undisturbed shielding wall and from its location the width of the additional shield is calculated and given in an analytical formula. We present results from modeling axial shielding effectiveness for various configurations of three-layer cylindrical magnetic shield sets. In particular, we examine the effect on shielding of spacing between shield layers, end cap geometry, and end cap holes as well as gaps between mating surfaces. We find that shield spacing is critical and that increased radial spacing continues to improve overall shielding at least up to the point where the ratio of the outer shield diameter to its length approaches 1. The analysis suggests that further increases in shield diameter would improve the shielding, but since this quickly becomes uneconomical, we present an approach that optimizes the cost-benefit ratio of a shield set. Finally, we describe a three-layer shield set design based on this analysis and present results demonstrating an axial shielding effectiveness of 3.5(4)×104.

In this paper, the flue gas desulfurization gypsum (FGD) generated from thermal power plant is used to produce high strength gypsum. Compared with the properties of high strength gypsum using natural gypsum, the basic properties of super high strength gypsum prepared by FGD gypsum are investigated based on the test results of strength, thermal expansion rate, crystal appearance and size. The results indicate there is little difference of the properties of high strength gypsum prepared by FGD gypsum and natural gypsum. And furthermore, the FGD gypsum can be used as the good raw material of high strength gypsum preparation instead of natural gypsum.

The shield design in particle accelerators and other high energy facilities are mainly connected to the high-energy neutrons. The deep penetration of neutrons through massive shield has become a very serious problem. For shielding to be efficient, most of these neutrons should be confined to the shielding volume. If the interior space will become limited, the sufficient thickness of multilayer shield must be used. Concrete and iron are widely used as a multilayer shield material. Two layers shield material was selected to guarantee radiation safety outside of the shield against neutrons generated in the interaction of the different proton energies. One of them was one meter of concrete, the other was iron-contained material (FeB, Fe2B and stainless-steel) to be determined shield thicknesses. FLUKA Monte Carlo code was used for shield design geometry and required neutron dose distributions. The resulting two layered shields are shown better performance than single used concrete, thus the shield design could leave more space in the interior shielded areas.

In this study, the near field human shield is investigated, which measured the shielding effect of the oval human phantom model, by locating the conductive material shield in front of the phantom model. Also the shielding effect is investigated with the FDTD (Finite Difference Time Domain) method, to confirm the validity of the measurement method. According to the results, it has been shown, that more than 30 dB of the shielding effect is observed for the small gap distances between the shield and phantom model, with the square shield length of 1.0 λ. On the other hand, very little and also negative shielding effect observed for the square shield length of 0.25 λ. Furthermore, due to the good agreement between the measured and calculated results, the validity of our measurement method is confirmed.
