Introduction to Optimization and Metaheuristic Methods

This chapter presents an introduction of optimization techniques considering their principal properties. The objective of this chapter is to stimulate the use of metaheuristic approaches for solving complex optimization problems. The analysis is carried out so that it results clear the need of employing metaheuristic schemes for the solution of parameter identification system schemes.
