This literature review is a background document for the final report of the study on?Drivers of policies for STI collaboration and related indicators?. Much of the findingsin this review re-appear in a condensed form in the final report. This document is not a deliverable in itself, but provides some further articulation of the themes from the literature which informed the production of the final report. The structure and content of the review was determined by the function it played in the project: it primarily covers drivers and indicators for internationalisation of science and technology. It also provides ? as context ? some overview of the current developments in international S&T activities. Much has been written about internationalisation patterns and this overview does not claim to be comprehensive. Conversely, the literature relating to some of the specific themes of interest to our study tends to be rather thinner.
