The principle of medicine based on scientific evidence shows the im portance of using validated instruments. Multiple Sclerosis Impact Scale (MSIS-29) is an instrument to assess the physical and psychological impact of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) on quality of life. Objective. To standardize the psychometric properties of the MSIS-29 to MS patients in a referral center, Call Centro de Atendimento e Tratamento da Esclerose Multipla (CATEM). Method. Conducted a prospective study of 100 subjects, 85% female with a mean age of 39.21±10.32 years. The stages of the standardization process of this study were translation, back translation, review by an expert committee and the pretest. Test and retest the MSIS-29/BR, and comparison with the scale of the Functional Assessment of Quality of Life in patients with MS (DEFU). Results. A reliable MSIS-29/BR 0.94 and 0.98 for test and retest, and reproducible 0.94 [0.92-.96] and 0.90 [0.85-0.93] for the physical and psychological respectively. There was moderate cor relation with both the psychological aspects DEFU as the physical, with greater correlation between psychological factors and the MSIS DEFU of personal satisfaction (r = -0.570). Conclusion. The stan dard version of MSIS-29/BR is valid and reproducible for people with MS experience in CATEM and for the Brasilian population.
