Diploidization failure and apomixis in Orobanchaceae

Precise synapsis is an essential condition for maintaining regular meiosis. Many permanent hybrids and polyploids in which meiosis is unbalanced rely on alternative reproductive systems. In Orobanchaceae, irregular meiosis seems to be the rule, and alternative means of reproduction are suggested, involving parthenogenesis and pseudogamy.
