A Set of Strategies Used in Cochlear Implants Implemented in a DSP

2015
One of the most recent neural prosthesis that have an excellent results, are the cochlear implants. Since the first implementation at our days we can see an adequate response when this device is implemented in human beings. It's a great quantity of people that is beneficiated with this prosthesis around 120 000 deaf persons, half of which being pediatric users who are able to develop nearly normal language. Different persons from different disciplines specifically otolaryngology, biomedical engineers, expert in digital signal processing, principally, have been working for a long time in the design and construction of this prosthesis. It's very important to indicate that signal processing, in particular, played an important role in the development of different techniques for deriving electrical stimuli from the speech signal. In this paper we demonstrated the implementation of 3 different strategies used in cochlear implants used principally in Clarion cochlear implant. We used a digital signal processor from Texas Instruments named TMS320C6416 to implement these strategies. We show the parameters of the implementation and some results obtained from the digital signal processing of the speech signal.
