Methods for Prevention of Metastases in the Perioperative Phase

1984
In many patients with a malignant tumor dissemination of cancer cells will already have taken place at the moment of detection of the primary tumor. The primary tumor is usually detected late in the disease, and it is questionable whether the physician will be able to prevent further dissemination just in the relatively short time from the moment of detection until operation of the primary tumor. Methods for prevention of metastases can only be applied successfully when significant metastases develop in this short period.
