Study of mechanisms of production the final state p-barp. pi. /sup +/. pi. /sup -/ in p-barp interactions at 32 GeV/c

1984
We analyze the mechanisms of production of the exclusive final state p-barp..pi../sup +/..pi../sup -/ from data of a p-barp experiment at 32 GeV/c in the Mirabelle bubble chamber. We show that the main contribution is from quasi-two-particle processes of one-vertex diffraction dissociation p( p-bar)..-->../sub //sup p/( p)p( p-bar)..pi../sup +/Q gr/sup -/ and pair production of the isobars ..delta../sup + +/approx.(..delta../sup + +/). We show that the main characteristics of production of ..delta../sup + +/approx.(..delta../sup + +/) are in good agreement with the predictions of the OPE model with absorption. We measure the cross sections for production of ..delta../sup + +/approx.(..delta../sup + +/), ..delta../sup 0/(approx.(..delta../sup 0/)), and rho/sup 0/ mesons in events lying in various sectors of the LPS diagram and establish that the main source of production of these final states is the decay of diffraction-excited protons (antiprotons).
