Translation of Messenger RNA

1973
The term translation is used herein to mean the biosynthesis of a protein by assembly of amino acids into a sequence specified by a messenger RNA (mRNA) template. Messenger RNA, produced from a DNA template with the aid of DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, and carrying the genetic information of that DNA, is often a transient intermediate between the stable genetic material and the final gene product, protein. However the final product from some genes is not protein but other RNA. Two types of this RNA are transfer RNA (tRNA) and ribosomal RNA (rRNA) and both are involved in the translation of mRNA.
