Therapeutic Effects of Growth Hormone Releasing Hormone

The existence of hypothalamic-hypophyseal releasing factors was suggested by the pioneering work of Sir Geoffrey Harris (1); Reichlin and co-workers postulated that a specific releasing factor for growth hormone (GH) was present in the hypothalamus (2). Its isolation, purification, and synthesis followed more than three decades of intensive investigation and awaited many refinements in the fields of bioassay, analytic biochemistry and, most importantly, a rich source of the peptide free from “contamination” with somatostatin (SRIH).
