Potassium-and caesium-selective PVC membrane electrodes based on bis-crown ethers

Abstract Potassium-selective and caesium-selective PVC membrane electrodes based on bis-benzo-15-crown-5 and bis-benzo-18-crown-6 ethers respectively, as neutral carriers, were prepared and the slectivity coefficients for various monovalent ions were measured. The electrodes based on bis-crown ethers are more selective than those based on the known monomeric crown ethers. One of the prepared potassium-selective electrodes has selectivity comparable to that of the electrodes based on valinomycin and the prepared caesium-selective electrodes are more selective than the existing ones.
