Optimum utilization of photovoltaic generation with battery storage in distribution system by utilizing genetic algorithm

This work introduces a methodology for optimum utilization of photovoltaic (PV) energy generation with battery energy storage system (BESS) in distribution network. In this work, three type time varying distribution load i.e. commercial, residential and industrial are considered for BESS allocation. Power Loss minimization is considered as main objective function in this paper. Moreover, bus voltage deviation is maintained within the distribution system operational limit. Optimal allocation and sizing of battery energy storage system with photovoltaic generation is achieved by considering PV-BESS project case. The proposed work is implemented on modified IEEE 69 Bus test system. Based on the simulation results, the proposed framework for battery allocation reduces power losses and mitigate overvoltage problem in test distribution network. The optimization results reveal that proposed optimization methodology is promising. Results of this paper also shows that it is possible to dispatch peak power during the peak load hours for each type of load model.
