Prevalence of Demodicid mites among medical students and its relevant factors

Objective To probe into the relationship between demodex infection in the freshmen and senior medical students and their individual hygienic habits.Methods By using cluster sampling methods,1 316 medical students were chosen to test mites and the questionnaire method was used to investigate the individual hygienic habits,facial diseases,and etc.Results The total infection rate was 39.44% in both freshmen and senior medical students,in which,the infection rate of the freshmen was 46.73% and 31.05% for the senior medical students.The infection rate of the freshmen was higher than that of the senior students,and the students with oily skin,mixed skin,rosacea,acne in face were likely to have a higher demodex infection rate than those who didn' t.Cross infection was inevitable among individuals who shared their towels.Conclusion The key to the prevention of demodicid mite infection is to strengthen the students' health education so as to develop good hygienic habits.
