Localization of Nephrocalcin in the Nephron
1994
Nephrocalcin (NC) is known as a major inhibitor of crystal aggregation and growth in the renal tubular system. Therefore, the cellular origin of this protein is of great interest to understand its physiological function in the nephron. Previous attempts at NC immuno-localization have been unsuccessful because of cross-reactivity of the antisera to Tamm-Horsfall protein (THP). The current study utilizes a new antibody to NC which confirms localization of the antigen to the thick ascending limb of Henle’s loop (TAHL) and proximal tubule.
