Garut potato farmers’ preference to the yield characteristics and the quality of the Indonesian Vegetables Research Institute potato varieties

The availability of a high-quality potato seed will affect to the increasing of Indonesia potato production. Indonesia Vegetables Research Institute (IVegRI) attempts to produce various high-quality potato varieties. The potato varieties are needed to disseminate. Therefore they could create benefits to the potato farmers, such as increasing the production and the revenue. The objective of the study was to observe Garut potato farmers’ preference on seven IVegRI potato varieties that have been released. The survey conducted in Girijava village, Garut district, to 32 potato farmer respondents from January to September 2019. Garut was chosen as the study area because it is the potato production centre in West Java. The data analysed by using Perceived Quality (PQ). The result of the study showed that from seven varieties that have been released by the IVEGRI, three of them are most likely by the farmers were   Dayang sumbi, Sangkuriang dan Medians, respectively. The result farmer’s preference can be used to improve the IVegRI potato varieties in the future.
