Wireless Telephony and Messaging (WTM): a new security level in your phone

2002
The paper defines a new security system called Wireless Telephony and Messaging (WTM) for enabling the user to call the rescue centre for help. The emergency could require either the police or an ambulance. Normally, the user has to dial the number and then speak to the staff personnel to tell them about the emergency. But what if he/she is not in a position to follow this procedure? It could be an accident or he/she might be held on gunpoint. In this paper, we discuss the automated and self-controlled security system WTM that we developed as a research based project at GIKI. In this system, the user has just to trigger it using a small RF transmitter small enough to be kept in the pocket. After this, the user ID (UID) along with the help ID (HID) is sent to the help centre through the telephone line. We have also developed a way to protect this line from being cut by the intruder by informing the user through an alarm. In this paper, we discuss its design and implementation issues.
