A fast, irradiation resistant fission fragment detector for neutron-fragment correlation measurements
1982
Abstract A fission fragment detector system using scintillator foils is described that offers fast timing and long term stability in the presence of intense electron, gamma, neutron and α particle background. Fragment masses and energies, measured by time of flight techniques, can be resolved under normal experimental conditions to ⩽ 2 annu and 4% (standard deviation), respectively. Experimental realization and sample results for neutron-fragment coincidence measurements for p+ 2.35, 2.36, 2.38 U at proton energies between 12.7 and 25.5 MeV with bursts widths σ ( t p ) of 0.25–0.55 ns are presented.
