Biot's Theory in the Finite Element Method

Governing equations for finite element modeling on the saturated soil have been formulated based on Biot's dynamic theory and then verified by comparing to existing solutions. A spatially and temporally nonlocal absorbing boundary condition (ABC) has been proposed for the present formulation to transmit outgoing waves generated in the confined computational domain such that the computational results will not be deteriorated by waves reflected from the truncating boundaries. The effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed ABC have been checked both analytically and computationally.
