The transition from the old national system to BPD biocidal product authorisation: The Italian Case

2010
Since 1998, Italy has regulated the marketing of some products such as insecticides, disinfectants (germicides and bactericides), rodenticides, insects repellants under ts own legislation. All these products are called "Presid Medico Chirurigici" (PMC). Some products such as wood prservatives and repellants) are freely sold on the Italian market. All these products now fall within the application of the Biocidal Products Directive and need to be authorized as Biocidal products. This article will describe briefly the Italian approach to the transition of these products under the BPD authorisation process.
