Catalytic Reduction of SO_2 in the Flue Gas to Sulfur

2010
The catalytic reduction of SO_2 in the flue gas produced in metallurgical process to sulfur with coal gas as a reducing agent is studied over the catalyst of Fe/Al_2O_3 in this paper.Effects of the different support, the different metal content, the rare earth of samarium and its content on the reduction of SO_2 to sulfur are investigated. The experimental results indicates that the finer the powder of Al_2O_3,the lower formation temperature of sulfur. The optimal content of ferrous is 14wt%in the catalyst of Fe/Al_2O_3,in this condition the yield of sulfur achieves 81.92% when the reaction temperature is 400℃.The addition of samarium to the catalyst increases the reaction activity, the yield of sulfur on the catalyst of Sm-Fe/Al_2O_3 is 40.5%higher than that of the catalyst of Fe/Al_2O_3 at the temperature of 360℃.And the catalyst containing different samarium content has different sulfur yield. The optimal content of samarium in Sm-Fe/Al_2O_3 catalyst is found to be about 1.0wt%.
