SnO2: F film on ZnO nanorods as ammonia and humidity sensor

2015
A metal oxide gas sensor composed of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorod and fluorine-doped tin oxide film (SnO2:F) was successfully fabricated using spray pyrolysis and hydrothermal method to increase the surface area of the sensor. The gas sensor’s response to ammonia and water vapor was carried out using a static sensing setup. Increasing concentrations of ammonia (6, 11, 17 ppm) and water vapor (14, 27, 41 ppm) were used. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images confirmed the large surface area through the presence of the grown ZnO nanorods. The sensor was found to be sensitive to both ammonia and water vapor.
