A LIST OF AMOY MOSQUITOES WITH THE DESCRIPTION OF A NEW SPECIES AND A NEW VARIETY

1956
27 species of culicine and anopheline mosquitoes are listed for Amoy during a long courseof intermittent survey. Among them two are probably new to literature.1. Culex (Culex) permixtus sp. nov. The adult resembles Culex vishnui closely, except thatthe latter is much smaller. The pharyngeal teeth of ♀♀ differ from each other markedly. Thelarvae are distinct, having the comb on the 8th. segment composed of numerous teeth (21-26),and a rather longer siphon (Index 7-8) with zigzag-arranged hair tufts.2. Armigeres (Armigeres) obturbans var. nov. chrysocorporis. The larvae differ fromobturbans only in the length of the anal papillae. The adults have a marked golden hue anddifferent abdominal markings. The style of ♂ hypopygium bears more teeth, usually 21, thanthat of obturbans. This variety occurs only in winter and early spring.
