Nutrition as a Tool to Reverse Immunosenescence

Abstract This chapter describes the issues of nutrition in older adults and how immunity becomes diminished in this age group. The concepts and regulatory aspects of functional foods and how these can be used to ameliorate immunity in the elderly are covered in some detail in the text. The role of vitamins and minerals as well as the use of probiotics are studied, along with information in the ways in which researchers have tried to modulate the immune system of the elderly using nutritional approaches.
