Esquizofrenias de inicio tardío: a propÓsito de un caso

2001
Late-onset schizophrenia is a term introduced by M. Bleuler in 1943 to designate a group of psychotic disorders with similar symptoms to those of the schizophrenias but with its onset above 40 years old. At the moment, the DSM-IV deal with this distinction, but several authors have questioned its validity and they have criticized the usual terminological confusion with the term "late paraphrenia" introduced by Roth in 1955. The authors presents a case of late-onset schizophrenia and they do a critical review of the some aspects related to these categories from a historical, conceptual, phenomenological and methodological point of view, collecting various contributions in the last years as well as some conclusions recently reached by an international consensus group.
