Application of selective portal vein embolization for the treatment of advanced liver cancer with portal vein tumor thrombus

Objective To study the effects of treatment with portal vein embolization on advanced liver cancer with portal vein tumor thrombus(PVTT).Methods 38 cases advanced liver cancer patients were treated by selective portal vein embolization(SPVE)under the guidance of Ultrasound.Results The rates of PVTT disappearance and shrinkage were 23.7% and 44.7% respectivelly.The tumor mass shrinkage rates was 76.3%,and AFP negative revcrsion rates reached 66.6%.9 cases of them underwent successfully hepatectomy after the embolization and the pathologic report approved postoperatively that the necrosis rates reached 100%.Conclusions SPVE is an effective and safe way to the treatments of advanced live cancer with PVTT without severe complications.
