Aging and lifetime analysis of POSS nanocomposites

2021
Abstract This chapter presents the behavior of various hybrid nanomaterials in the presence of different POSS structures: pristine and substituted configurations. The history of samples always defines the postprocessing material solution. The product stability, characterized by different physical and chemical parameters, is closely related to the aging rates. The structure of host polymer determines the interaction depth between the basic organic and inorganic phases and the aging is influenced by the cage effect of POSS. The structure-property relationships are discussed with representative consequent examples of various types of polymers, the degradation mechanisms of which are intrinsically influenced by the interphase area. The functional peculiarities of various classes of polymers are analyzed starting from the POSS capacity to decide the modifications in material behavior during aging. This lifetime analysis is based on resistance investigations, which are able to characterize the material durability.
