The Doha Work Programme: Possible Impact on Energy Trade and on Domestic Policies in Energy-Producing Developing Countries

The WTO is currently in the midst of its first round of overall multilateral trade negotiations since its creation in 1995. This article analyses the Doha Work Programme from the perspective of the energy sector and with an eye on the interest of developing countries. To that end, it identifies the major relevant issues for the negotiations and the conflicting interests involved, and proposes negotiating priorities and strategies, in particular for energy-exporting developing countries.
