MHE-MPC Based Control Architecture of an LCL Filter Grid-Connected PWM Inverter

2019
This paper deals with a novel control of pulse width modulation inverters connected to the grid through resonant LCL filters. High-speed on-line model-predictive control scheme is derived in order to provide a fast response, making it suitable for applications, such as active filtering, where a large bandwidth is required. Two state observers, using moving horizon estimator algorithm, are used in order to reduce the number of required sensors, to eliminate noise and to achieve a good stability against voltage grid disturbances. Computational complexity has been reduced such that an on-line optimization method in a realtime environment with hard time constraints is become feasible. Robustness and effectiveness of the proposed control architecture are validated using an hardware-in-the-loop, where run-times are reported and solution accuracy is compared with an open-source implementation solver, thus demonstrating maturity for an industrial application.
