Whiplash injury to the cervical spine

2019
Due to the increase in the number of vehicles, modernization and rapid development of traumatic industries, the number of traumatic injuries of the spine is progressively increasing. Injuries of the cervical spine are 55-80% in the structure of all injuries of the spinal column. The article examines in detail the epidemiology and social significance of whiplash injury of the cervical spine. The main causes and mechanism of development of cervical spine injury are considered. Possible etiological factors leading to the development of pain syndrome are identified. The clinical picture of whiplash injury of the cervical spine is thoroughly described. The theories of pathogenesis of multiple and polymorphic clinical manifestations of whiplash injuries of the neck, such as coordination disorders of movement and postural control, vestibular and oculomotor disorders, vegetative, affective, behavioral and cognitive disorders are analyzed. This scientific work describes in detail the treatment of this type of pathology, based on a number of studies. Relatively justified medical recommendations in the acute period of whiplash injury can be considered only measures for early activation of the patient and the restoration of physiological volume of movements in the cervical spine. The absence of unified algorithms for diagnosis and treatment of whiplash injury of the cervical spine requires additional research.
