Pulse laser system and method for operating a pulse laser system

2016
The invention relates to a laser system (1000) for generating pulsed laser radiation at a mean fundamental wave (λ), comprising a control device (100) and a lossy optical resonator (200). The optical resonator (200) as the assembly here comprises a reinforcing portion (210) having a laser medium (212) and a respective pump source (214), a rear reflector (230), an output mirror (240), wherein the pulsed laser radiation (at the mean fundamental wave λ) along the resonator axis (O) decouples, a polarizer (250), a means for Q-switching (260), and means for mode locking (270). The laser system according to the invention (100) is characterized in that the control device (100) is adapted between a Q-switched first mode (I) and a mode-locked second mode (II) to switch independently or coupled, wherein the quality of the resonator in the first mode (I) is switched by the means for Q-switching (260) at a certain time (T1), and in the second mode (II) as a function by the means for mode locking (270) of the round trip time (T) of the circulating in the resonator medium fundamental wave periodically modulated (λ) and at a certain time (T1) is switched. The laser system should allow in particular the production of high energy pulsed laser beams with pulse durations in the sub-nanosecond range, wherein the laser system is characterized by a simple, compact and robust construction using a minimum number of optical components and which is adapted within a single optical resonator both Q-switched and mode-locked pulses to generate.
