A Trial with Dehydro-Emetine in Schistosomiasis in Rhodesia.
1962
Abstract A total of 19 Africans with S. haematobium infections were treated with 1.5 mg./kg. of dehydro-emetine intravenously daily for 10 days. Sixteen of these were seen again at 3 months or more after treatment, and 11 of them (68.7 per cent.) had ceased to pass eggs and were regarded as cured. Four persons infected with S. mansoni were seen after 4 months or more, and all were passing viable eggs. Eight of the 19 persons treated had some complications such as calcification of the bladder. Six of these were included amongst those “cured”.
