Consolidation characteristics of completely decomposed granite in Hong Kong

2005
Based on consolidation tests of 3 kinds of Completely Decomposed Granite (CDG) from Hong Kong, some conclusions are drawn: the values of preconsolidation pressure and overconsolidation ratio are extremely large; the preconsolidation pressure shows abnormal variation with the buried depth of soil; the consolidation coefficient and the compressibility coefficient decrease with the increase of the normal pressure; the relation between the normal pressure and the coefficients of consolidation and compression demonstrates an approximate negative exponential function; the main factors causing the consolidation of SDG lie in the special mineral constituents, chemical composition and structural strength due to weathering.
