Énergie d'interface et croissance du cadmium en bain fondu

Abstract Solidification of cadmium in ultra high vacuum is studied by direct observation of the profil of cadmium droplets. The contact angle on the interface cadmium melt-{0001} face of solid cadmium is shown to be 37° ± 1° and an interfacial energy of 171 ± 8 erg/cm 2 is calculated. The observation gives evidence for a lateral growth of the {0001} face of cadmium from the melt.
