De novo status epilepticus during influenza B infection: when follow-up matters
2020
Abstract We hereby present a case of a young previously healthy woman who experienced a de novo generalized Non Convulsive Status Epilepticus (NCSE) followed by complex behavioral symptoms lasted for several days during influenza B infection. It is known that influenza infection can have a broad spectrum of presentation ranging from an uncomplicated illness to many serious conditions as is the case of influenza associated encephalitis/encephalopathy (IAE). Status Epilepticus (SE) can be a presentation of IAE and this has to be kept in mind particularly during influenza outbreaks. Nevertheless, especially in the youngs and during fever, it is also possible to observe a de novo episode of SE as the presenting epileptic manifestation in the context of a genetic generalized epilepsy (GGE).
