Perfluoro-n-hexyl iodide as gain media for high power, continuous solar-pumped lasers

Abstract A comparative study of continuous wave (CW) laser performance with perfluoro-n-hexyl iodide n-C 6 F 13 I and perfluoro-n-propyl iodide n-C 3 F 7 I was performed using a 10-W solar-simulator-pumped laser system. To our knowledge, this is the first report of CW laser excitation with n-C 6 F 13 I. The measured output power is near 10 W and is comparable to that of n-C 3 F 7 I. However, n-C 6 F 13 I has the advantages of easy purification and repeated use.
