Object-oriented definition of compressed battened member for an automatic CAD procedure

2000
Nowadays the complete standard analysis of structures using no advanced computer methods involves significant excess in time, energy and possibility of errors. Therefore, the development of new generation of softwares for integrated standard analysis and design is in the focus. On the side of analysis the most efficient procedures apply thin-walled beam-column finite element including the warping effect. The full geometric non-linearity takes the advantage of the 3D stability analysis in the re-engineering of the standard design This re-engineering may result in automatic analysis design procedure. On the other hand, in applicant respect the object-oriented engineering and programming may be preferred. Using the OO technology (paradigm) Users may avoid the generation of finite element model - the basic object of the model is the structural member like in the CAD/CAM program technology. However, the finite element model of the member object is automatically generated by decomposition. With regard to these points the intention of this work was to find a suitable CAD oriented model for battened compression members which follows reliably the specification of EC3 for battened members. This work was carried out in the framework of the ConSteel project [4].
