Accidental poisoning of ruminants with the fertilizer, urea in Ibadan, Nigeria.

A report of accidental poisoning of goats and cattle with the fertilizer, urea (46% Nitrogen) is made. All the fifteen goats IlJ1d five cattle involved in the intoxication eventually died. The clinical symptoms and pathological lesions were similar in both goats and cattle. There was a significant elevation of the blood urea nitrogen values in both cattle and goats; average for cattle being 39mg per 100c.c. and for goats 35mg per 100c.c. The importance of these findings in tile ex paneling livestock industry In Nigeria is discussed.
