Sub-alpine region has a relatively narrow habitat and a poor environment and important ecological value as a refuge for northern plants caused by global climate changes. On the other hand, Mt. Hwangbyeong (1,408m) is belong to as Baekdudaegan Protected Area, Lately, part of the area is disturbed due to pasture and inflowing tourists. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to establish basic data for the conservation and management of Mt. Hwangbyeong. A total of 24 plots were installed in the area. There wew installed more than 1,000m above the Mt. Hwangbyeong to conduct survey. As a result of cluster analysis, communities were classified into Quercus mongolica- Abies nephrolepis (community 1), Q. mongolica (community 2), and A. nephrolepis (community 3). As a result of analysis of importance, Q. mongolica (21.4) > A. nephrolepis (19.1) > Acer pseudosieboldianum (8.2), Tilia amurensis (6.0) in community 1. Community 2: Q. mongolica (34.9) > A. nephrolepis (19.1) > T. amurensis (10.2) > Betula ermanii (7.2) etc. and community 3 were followed by A. nephrolepis (40.0) > Q. mongolica (11.9) > A. pseudosieboldianum (6.4) > T. amurensis (6.4). Study sites appear as a mosaic patch of stand structure by forest type. It is necessory to figure out dynamics of mixed forest for continuous monitoring, and to preserve each dominant forest, it needs to prepare a preservation measure through a buffer zone.
