UWB for low power, short range, in-body medical implants

In this paper, we developed a MATLAB model to estimate path loss inside body tissues. This model was then extended to include attenuation for the case of heterogeneous layer-structure medium. We conclude that UWB is a viable option for short-distance in-body communications and a combination of in+on body. A power consumption study also illustrated that UWB radios have several orders of lower power consumption. Hence UWB is a good candidate for body area networks
